SeaForge Colloidal Silica - Anti-Sag Epoxy Thickener
Colloidal Silica
Epoxy Thickener for Structural Bonding, Fillets, and Non-Sag Applications
SeaForge Colloidal Silica is a lightweight silica additive used to thicken epoxy for bonding, fillets, gap filling, and laminating. It produces a smooth, non-sagging mixture with excellent structural strength. Once cured, the mixture is exceptionally hard and durable, making it ideal for structural joints and areas where a tough, impact-resistant surface is desired.
Primary Applications
Structural Bonding | Fillets | Gap Filling | Laminating
Why Builders Choose Colloidal Silica
- Superior Structural Bonding: Creates a strong, hard epoxy adhesive for demanding structural joints.
- Hard & Durable: Cures to an exceptionally hard surface, making it well suited for reinforcing edges, corners, and other areas subject to wear or impact.
- Non-Sagging: Helps thickened epoxy stay in place rather than running or sagging.
- Smooth Consistency: Produces a smooth, easy-to-spread adhesive mixture.
- Gap Filling: Thickens epoxy for joints where a perfect fit is not possible.

How to Use
- Mix the Epoxy First: Thoroughly mix SeaForge Epoxy Resin (Part A) and Hardener (Part B) at the specified ratio before adding Colloidal Silica.
- Add Filler Gradually: Slowly stir Colloidal Silica into the mixed epoxy until you reach the consistency needed for the application. Avoid creating airborne dust during mixing.
- For Bonding & Laminating: Add enough Colloidal Silica to create a smooth, thickened mixture that spreads easily but does not readily run out of the joint. Apply to the mating surfaces and assemble the parts.
- For Fillets: Add Colloidal Silica until the epoxy reaches a smooth, non-sag consistency. It can also be combined with wood flour for structural fillets. Apply and shape with a rounded filleting tool.
- For Gap Filling: Use a thicker mixture that will bridge the gap and remain in place without sagging.
- Fiberglass Structural Fillets: When fiberglass reinforcement is required, apply fiberglass tape or cloth according to the project instructions. When possible, fiberglass can be applied while the fillet is still uncured, reducing sanding and additional preparation.
Pro Tip: Clean up excess epoxy and squeeze-out before it cures. Colloidal Silica mixtures cure extremely hard and are difficult to sand, so a little cleanup while the epoxy is still workable can save considerable sanding later.
