Sea•Glo Topsides Paint — FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What surfaces can Sea•Glo Topsides Paint be applied to?

Sea•Glo Topsides Paint is designed for above-waterline surfaces including fiberglass, wood, and properly primed metal. It is not suitable for below-waterline use.

Do I need a primer before applying Sea•Glo Topsides Paint?

It is recommended but not always required. A compatible marine primer is recommended for bare fiberglass and metal surfaces. Previously painted surfaces in good condition can be sanded and topcoated directly after cleaning.

How many coats are required?

Three coats are typically sufficient for full coverage and a durable finish. For maximum gloss and protection in high-UV or high-wear areas sand the third coat smooth and apply 1 final coat.

How long should I wait between coats?

Allow 1 hour between coats at 72°F (no sanding required). Additional applications after 24 hours will require light wet sanding with 320-grit paper. Wet sand before the final coat for the smoothest finish. Do not apply if temperatures are below 50°F or above 90°F.

Can Sea•Glo Topsides Paint be rolled and tipped?

Yes. Roll-and-tip is the recommended application method for the smoothest, most professional finish. Use a short-nap foam roller and a quality brush to tip out bubbles immediately after rolling.

Can it be sprayed?

Yes. Sea•Glo Topsides Paint can be sprayed using conventional or HVLP equipment. Thin 10–15% with the recommended reducer for spray application.

How long before the painted surface can be launched?

Allow a minimum of 7 days full cure before launching or exposing the surface to water immersion. The paint will be dry to the touch within a few hours but requires full cure for maximum hardness and durability.

Is Sea•Glo Topsides Paint UV resistant?

Yes. Sea•Glo Topsides Paint contains UV stabilizers to resist fading, chalking, and gloss loss from sun exposure, keeping your boat looking sharp season after season.

How do I clean and maintain a Sea•Glo Topsides finish?

Wash with mild soap and water. For oxidized or dull finishes, use a marine polish or compound followed by a quality marine wax to restore gloss. Avoid abrasive cleaners that can scratch the surface.
